2025 Feng Dance International Gala

2025 Feng Dance International Festival: Identity and Recognition

Experience a powerful evening of contemporary dance as artists from the USA, UK, Hong Kong, and Taiwan come together for a cross-cultural performance that explores identity, voice, and belonging. Through this international festival confronts urgent questions of our time and invites audiences to reflect on the meaning of self in today’s world.

Where Movement Transcends Identity|

Featuring artists from Taiwan, the United Kingdom, the USA, and Hong Kong, the 2025 Feng Dance International Gala (FDIG) unfolds under the curatorial theme Identity and Recognition, presenting a cross-cultural, transnational dance exchange.

In this space where the body becomes language, dance is not merely a form of performance—it is a practice of transformation. Through embodied creation, artists turn the stage into a bridge for connection and understanding.

FDIG 2025 is more than an artistic showcase—it is an invitation to engage in dialogue across societies and cultures. We invite audiences not only to watch, but to reflect:

In a world shaped by war, migration, and globalization, can we find our sense of being—through movement?

Exploring Recent Global Racial and National Conflicts through News Footage and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The dancers on stage are made of flesh and bone, serving as vessels for human existence. Each body is submerged in endless news footage, illustrating that the world' s disputes and disasters have never been confined to just the news. Issues of human identity are real and pervasive, present in various corners of life and existence around the globe. ”Being “ contrasts the United Nations ’Universal Declaration of Human Rights with contemporary international wars, political crises, and social injustices. Has the Human Rights Declaration become a utopia? Through this work, it raises questions about issues of identity and inspires viewers to reflect on their own and others‘ situations, responding with an understanding and attitude that transcends conventional frameworks.

Blue is a duet examining the necessity and fragility of human relationships, reliant on and complicated by identity. The movement will be generated through an exploration of the various meanings of “blue,” as used in vernacular American English including: the primary color, the sky, the sea, bruising, melancholy, puritanical, and riqué. Blue features live singing by the performers as well as dancing.

RGWW × Rosanna Gamson

RGWW (Rosanna Gamson/World Wide) fosters dialogue through the production, performance and teaching of dance theater. Convening skilled dancers, singers, actors, musicians and visual artists from eclectic backgrounds and diverse countries, we create new collaborations that weave our different skills, traditions, and points of view into sumptuous, entertaining and provocative dance theater reflecting the complexity of living in the world together.

Since 1998 RGWW has created a multi-lingual, multi-media body of dance theater work rooted in the cultural multiplicity of Los Angeles. The company is an ensemble of outstanding professionals, with other artists and communities participating on a project-to-project basis. Each project sparks a different conversation about culture and context, accesses different communities, and promotes a different area of research for the creators and performers, which then is opened to the public through workshops and showings over the course of its creation. RGWW has established a long record of creating outstanding dance theater works conceived and directed by Gamson, grounded in a humanist perspective, and promoting cross-cultural dialogue.

The company has toured since 2000, presented by venues and festivals in North America, since 2012 in Europe. Most recently, we premiered a quartet commissioned by Contradanza which premiered at Teatro Raul Flores Canelo at CENART in Mexico City and a commission in 2023 from Fine5 Dance Company which brought Gamson and an assistant to Tallinn, Estonia to create three short works for older dancers.

Artistic Director Gamson has taught workshops at the CDC La Termitiere in Ougadougou, Burkina Faso, at the Centro de Producción de Danza Contemporánea (CEPRODAC) in Mexico City, Mexico, and mentored students at the CND in Pantin, France. Since 2023, Gamson has led dance theater workshops in Asian university dance programs including Tainan University of Technology, Shanghai Theatre Academy, Minzu University, and Zhejiang Conservatory of Music (ZJCM).

《Far Gone》

Far Gone is a one-man show that explores the complex issues of war, religion and power through the story of a Ugandan child soldier, whilst examining the way the West manipulates specific narratives of Africa, often using “legitimate” aid organisations like ‘Invisible Children’ in a way that directly impacts people of African heritage in the UK and beyond.

‘It aims to address and widen the current representation on stage of Black British experience.’

Inspired by the writer’s real life experience of nearly being kidnapped by the guerilla rebel group The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) led by Joseph Kony in Uganda, it draws on the contract between his experiences as a child in Uganda and the experience of being a young black man in the UK, and how perceptions of ‘Africa’ effects his own narrative. It aims to address and widen the current representation on stage of Black British experience.

Roots Mbili Theatre × John Rwothomack

Founded in 2021, Roots Mbili Theatre is a dynamic dramatic arts company specialising in cross-cultural collaborative practice. The company is the brainchild of John Rwothomack, an actor, director, and writer supported by Digital Director, Smart Banda and Creative Producer, Sam Holland. Beginning with Bad Blood Blues in 2018 and under the moniker of John Rwothomack, the three have collaborated frequently over the years including the inception of Far Gone at Theatre Deli and it’s subsequent performances at Sheffield Theatres and the Kampala International Theatre Festival in Uganda. These foundations have been crucial in realising our shared vision for Roots Mbili Theatre and the enormous potential of its impact on the global stage.
