福爾摩沙合唱團2025系列音樂會之三—André J. Thomas與福爾摩沙合唱團

本場音樂會，福爾摩沙合唱團將首度邀請美國重量級指揮、作曲家、教育家安德烈．傑洛米．湯瑪斯（André J. Thomas）博士擔任客席指揮。湯瑪斯博士將帶來一系列創作與編曲作品，亦安排來自美國、斯洛維尼亞、西班牙、愛爾蘭、古巴、韓國多元風格的經典聖詩與黑人靈歌以及台灣合唱作品。這些作品充滿張力與深厚的和聲，極具表現力與感染力，透過福爾摩沙合唱團的詮釋，必能感動人心。我們期望透過演唱來自不同文化背景的合唱作品，不僅拓展音樂視野、豐富藝術素養，也讓台灣觀眾近距離感受國際經典合唱的魅力。

For this concert, the Formosa Singers are honored to invite, for the very first time, the distinguished American conductor, composer, and educator Dr. André J. Thomas as guest conductor. Dr. Thomas will present a selection of his own compositions and arrangements, alongside a diverse program of choral works from the United States, Slovenia, Spain, Ireland, Cuba, Korea, and Taiwan. These works, rich in harmonic depth and expressive power, include timeless hymns, spirituals, and contemporary choral pieces. Interpreted through the artistry of the Formosa Singers, they promise to move and inspire the audience. Through the performance of choral music from such varied cultural backgrounds, we aim not only to broaden musical horizons and enrich artistic appreciation, but also to offer Taiwanese audiences a rare opportunity to experience the beauty and spirit of world-class choral masterpieces up close.

湯瑪斯博士是當代美國合唱界極具影響力的重要人物，長年致力於推動合唱藝術與教育，2017年榮獲美國合唱指揮協會（American Choral Directors Association）最高榮譽 — 羅伯特．蕭（Robert Shaw）合唱獎，以表彰他對全球合唱領域的卓越貢獻。湯瑪斯博士目前擔任倫敦交響樂團（London Symphony Orchestra）協同藝術家（associate artist）、佛羅里達州立大學音樂院榮譽退休教授（Professor Emeritus of Music at Florida State University）。

自1988年起，他擔任塔拉赫西社區合唱團（Tallahassee Community Chorus）藝術總監長達三十一個樂季，並曾任美國全國音樂教育（National Association for Music Education）及美國合唱指揮協會（American Choral Directors Association）主席。他的足跡遍及世界各大合唱音樂節講者、客席指揮與大師班講師，亦曾指導國際合唱音樂聯盟（International Federation of Choral Musicians）及世界青年合唱團（World Youth Choir）等合唱音樂營、佛羅里達州立大學音樂院、德州大學奧斯汀分校（University of Texas, Austin）、耶魯大學（Yale University）等擔任唱指揮，孕育許多來自世界各地的青年學子。英國伯明罕市立交響樂團（City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra）、倫敦交響樂團、柏林廣播合唱團（Rundfunkchor Berlin）、北德廣播合唱團（NDR Chor）、荷蘭廣播合唱團（Netherlands Radio Choir）、保加利亞廣播合唱及管弦樂團（Bulgarian Radio Choir and Orchestra）、韓國首爾大都會合唱團（Seoul Metropolitan Chorus）；安山市立合唱團（Ansan City Choir）與濟州西歸浦合唱團（Jeju Provincial Seogwipo Chorale）、美國北卡羅來納州夏洛特交響樂團（Charlotte Symphony Orchestra）、捷克國家交響樂團（Czech National Symphony Orchestra）等亦曾邀請他擔任客席指揮，足見其國際聲望。除了指揮及教育外，湯瑪斯博士創作豐富的合唱作品及編曲，廣泛被各大音樂出版社發行，並出版專書與教學影片，對合唱音樂的教育與推廣貢獻卓著。

André J. Thomas is a Professor Emeritus of Music at Florida State University. He was visiting Professor of Choral Conducting at Yale University from 2020-2022. He also served as a faculty member at the University of Texas, Austin. He is presently an Associate Artist with the London Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Thomas received his degrees from Friends University (B.A.), Northwestern University (M. M.), and The University of Illinois (D.M.A). He is in demand as a choral adjudicator, clinician, and director of Honor/All-State Choirs throughout North America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand, Australia, and Africa.

Dr. Thomas has conducted choirs at the state, division, and national conventions of the Music Educators National Conference (NAFME) and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). His international conducting credits are extensive. He has led numerous prestigious orchestras and choirs around the world, including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in England, the NDR Chor and the Rundfunkchor Berlin in Germany, the Netherlands Radio Choir, the Bulgarian Radio Choir & Orchestra, the Seoul Metropolitan Chorus, Ansan City Choir, Jeju Provincial Seogwipo Chorale in South Korea, the Charlotte Symphony, China's People's Liberation Orchestra, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra.

Thomas is a distinguished composer/arranger with Hinshaw Music Company, Mark Foster Music Company, Fitzsimons Music Company, Lawson Gould, Earthsongs, Choristers Guild, and Heritage Music Company. Various musical organizations have recognized Thomas with the Living Legend Award, the Distinguished Service Award, the Robert Shaw Award, the NCCO (National Collegiate Choral Organization) Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Southern Region of ACDA Award of Excellence. In January 2019, he was inducted into the Florida Music Educator's Hall of Fame, and in 2022 he was presented the Samuel Simons Sanford Medal, the most prestigious honor conferred by the Yale School of Music.

成立於1994年的福爾摩沙合唱團為台灣最活躍的合唱團隊。由留美合唱指揮蘇慶俊教授創團並擔任藝術總監，以推廣優質台灣合唱音樂、追求精緻化合唱藝術為成立宗旨。三十年來的努力經營，廣獲國內外各界好評。 福爾摩沙合唱團致力於豐富台灣歌謠的內涵，將台灣近百年來，從傳統到現代的旋律，賦予新的聲音與生命力。曾於2004年，應客家文化委員會委託創作、出版「客家歌謠合唱曲譜」的CD與合唱譜集；屢屢入圍並榮獲文化部影視及流行音樂產業局金曲獎肯定的十餘張CD，和百餘首已出版的混聲和同聲合唱曲譜，是合唱團一步一腳印，為台灣合唱文化努力耕耘下的傲人成績。

保持多元的音樂風格，是福爾摩沙合唱團持續進步的動力。自1997年起，陸續邀請國際知名音樂家合作演出，包括伯恩斯坦最為推崇的合唱大師約瑟夫．弗盧默費爾特（Joseph Flummerfelt）、德國馬丁． 貝爾曼（Martin Behrmann）、澳洲史蒂芬．里克（Stephen Leek）、瑞典蓋瑞．葛雷登（Gary Graden）、拉格納・博林（Ragnar Bohlin）、美國安東．阿姆斯壯（Anton Amstrong）、威廉．迪寧（William Dehning）、喬・麥可・謝布（Jo-Michael Scheibe）、湯瑪斯·霍姆（Thomas Holm）、日本田中信昭、松下耕、花岡由裕、太田務、匈牙利卡塔琳．基斯（Katalin Kiss）、克羅埃西亞布蘭科・斯塔克（Branko Stark）、委內瑞拉瑪麗亞・吉南德（Maria Guinand ）與挪威湯瑪斯．卡普林（Thomas Caplin）；除了音樂會的合作外，還曾委託松下耕、里克、 卡普林、菲律賓法蘭西斯科・費利西亞諾（Francisco F. Feliciano）及新加坡鄭維誠（Albert Tay）為福爾摩沙合唱團量身改編多首台灣歌謠合唱曲。

被譽為台灣最好的合唱團之一，自2002年起，福爾摩沙合唱團連續二十三年獲選進入「國藝會演藝團隊年度獎助專案，以「TAIWAN TOP演藝團隊」為品牌，多次應邀於國內外藝術節表演，深獲好評，足跡遍及美國、加拿大、澳洲、日本、澳門、新加坡、馬來西亞等地。2018年九月受美國愛荷華州西北學院（Northwestern College）以及奧蘭治城藝術委員會（Orange City Arts Council）之邀請，赴美加舉辦五場巡迴音樂會及研習工作坊；2021年3月受美國合唱指揮協會（American Choral Directors Association）邀請參與 2021全國年會（National Conference）演出；2023年七月，獲邀赴美蒙大拿密蘇拉國際合唱音樂節（Montana International Choral Festival），這都是台灣好聲音被國際聽見的最佳機會。2025年八月獲得東京福爾摩沙音樂會協會（Tokyo Formosa Concert Association）的邀請，將於 2025年八月下旬前往日本，在東京都豐州市民音樂廳以及江東區文化中心進行為期七天的音樂演出。

Founded in 1994 by Ching-Chun Su, Formosa Singers is one of the most active and internationally recognized choirs in Taiwan. Committed to fine choral artistry and the promotion of Taiwanese choral music, the choir has published over 300 choral arrangements and more than ten award-winning albums.

The choir frequently performs abroad, with appearances at the 2015 IFCM World Choral EXPO in Macao, Cantus 2017 in Singapore, and a 2018 tour to Canada and the United States. In 2021, Formosa Singers was invited by the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) to perform at its National Convention, and in 2023, the choir participated in the Montana International Choral Festival. In August 2025, the choir will tour Japan at the invitation of the Tokyo FORMOSA Concert Association, giving a week-long series of performances at Toyosu Civic Hall and the Koto City Cultural Center in Tokyo.
