Twenty Tutti
“Affection” (眷戀) embodies the profound love for music shared by every student of the Datong Wind Band. “Timeless” (雋) represents our wish for tonight’s melodies to be refreshing, enduring, and evocative. “Twenty” (廿) symbolizes the precious memories gathered over the two decades since our founding.
In musical terminology, “Tutti” signifies playing together. “Twenty Tutti” marks a grand ensemble twenty years in the making—a gathering of souls to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Pingtung County Datong Senior High School is a comprehensive secondary school. The Junior High Wind Band was established in 2006, followed by the Senior High Wind Band Club in 2020. As the Junior High Wind Band marks its 20th anniversary, its melodies continue to resonate across the southern lands, transcending the passage of time.
With the Junior High Wind Band at its core, the ensemble places a high premium on character education, fostering cultural literacy, teamwork, global mobility, and problem-solving skills. Although most members begin their instrumental journey only after joining the program, their passion and perseverance have led to extraordinary achievements. Competing alongside the Senior High Wind Club, the ensemble has consistently secured the "National Exemplary" (First Class) award in the Senior High School Category A of the National Student Music Competition from 2020 to 2025. In 2025, the ensemble was selected for the "National Exemplary Teams Showcase," earning the honor of performing at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying). The program has also seen exceptional success in percussion ensembles, brass quintets, woodwind quintets, and solo competitions. Furthermore, the band is frequently invited to perform at charitable and major events, such as the Ministry of Health and Welfare Southern Region Home for the Elderly’s Christmas Concert, the opening ceremony of the National Middle School Athletic Games, and community arts outreach programs in rural areas.
Our students excel in both academics and the arts. Graduates have gone on to join prestigious institutions and orchestras worldwide, including the Percussions de Strasbourg, the Conservatoire de Lyon, the Sibelius Academy, the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, the Manhattan School of Music, ArtCenter College of Design, Waseda University Graduate School of Architecture, and top-tier domestic universities such as NTNU, TNUA, NTUA, TNNUA, NTU (Electrical Engineering, Law, Veterinary Medicine), NCKU, NTHU, NYCU, NCCU, KMU, CMU, and NSYSU.
Upholding the philosophy of "integrating learning with reflection" and "balancing artistry with logic," the program harmonizes local culture with international perspectives. We offer a diverse curriculum, including Music and Movement, Iranian Tombak, Handpan workshops, Paiwan Flute making and folk songs, A cappella, Music Composition, Arts Career Lectures, and Hengchun Folk Song and Yueqin workshops, alongside various arts and cultural camps. For seven consecutive years, the program has been recognized by the Ministry of Education’s "Traditional Arts Education" project. By weaving Pingtung’s cultural heritage into our curriculum and translating local sentiments into musical notes, we have been honored as an Outstanding School. Our frequent international exchanges share the beauty of Taiwanese culture with the world, broadening our students’ global horizons.
Tonight’s concert features a tapestry of wind ensembles, chamber music, and original student compositions, showcasing a soundscape that is both powerful and poignant. We cordially invite you to join this musical dialogue and experience this moving chapter that spans twenty years, bridging tradition and modernity.
