Every life is woven from the people we meet, the places we inhabit, and the moments we carry with us. After completing her studies, pianist Ying-Hua Huang spent six years living in Myanmar, where she devoted herself to piano teaching, performing, and cultural exchange through music. After returning to Taiwan in 2021, these experiences gradually gave rise to Mélancolie, a solo piano recital through which she reflects on the experiences that have shaped her.
From Chopin's Romanticism to the twentieth-century voices of Poulenc, Takemitsu, and Kapustin, and finally to The Butterfly Lovers and Ying-Hua Huang's own arrangements, music from different eras and cultural traditions intertwines to form a musical portrait of her life.
Some of these works accompanied her through the years she spent abroad, while others entered her life at different stages of her journey. Some were born from farewells, others from reunions; some are dedicated to distant places, while others become an intimate conversation with oneself. Together, they become expressions of gratitude—to those who have walked beside her, to the places she once called home, and to the moments that continue to resonate in her life.
In this recital, Mélancolie is understood not simply as melancholy, but as a gentle way of looking back—with gratitude, remembrance, and quiet reflection.
Music cannot bring the past back to life, yet it has the power to preserve memory, allowing cherished moments to return through melody. May Mélancolie gently remind each listener of the people, places, and moments that have shaped their lives, and invite them to rediscover their own stories through music.
