灼燒記憶，引燃謎樣的追尋；凝視死亡，才是揭密的開始。一對雙胞胎兄妹在母親過世後，聽取公證人宣讀母親遺囑，要求他們前往中東，尋找素未謀面的父親以及從未聽聞過的兄長。從小在加拿大成長的兩人，對於憂鬱又疏離的母親的過去一無所知。哥哥西蒙先是拒絕接受指示，妹妹珍則對母親死前無解的沉默感到疑惑，而決定憑著微薄線索，不顧一切前往陌生國度，展開一場始料未及的冒險際遇，並一步步挖掘出母親前半生痛苦殘酷的驚人祕密。

《烈火焚身》改編自同名劇作，《沙丘》、《銀翼殺手2049》、《異星入境》國際名導丹尼維勒納夫一鳴驚人撼世代表作。故事高潮迭起、抽絲剝繭，以導演一貫創作脈絡的「追尋」為母題，於兩個不同時空中交錯，理出在烽火戰亂、孤寂宿命與漫長旅程中，每個人所承載的糾結命運。電影裡更結合多首英搖天團「電台司令」的歌曲作為配樂，更為影像氛圍增添濃厚詩意和惆悵氣息。

​在《烈火焚身》中，他以原著劇本剖開戰火下殘酷的家族祕密。在《戀戀貝魯特》裡，他化身男主角，親自演繹異國愛戀在內戰中的無奈與凋零而。在《海之邊》，他首度兼任導演與編劇，展開一場荒誕又深沉的返鄉葬父之旅。

導演｜丹尼維勒納夫

加拿大當代重量級導演，更是國際影壇極負盛名的導演之一。丹尼維勒納夫最早的興趣不是拍電影，而是昆蟲學，但自從愛上電影後就斷然放棄這個喜好，義無反顧地投入電影創作的世界。《烈火焚身》是他的第四部劇情長片，在此之前曾沉寂一段時日的維勒納夫，距離榮獲柏林影展影評人費比西獎的第二部長片《迷情漩渦》九年後，以慘絕人寰謀殺案的《蒙特婁校園屠殺事件簿》重返坎城，彷彿為影壇投下一顆震撼彈。隨後創作能量持續引爆，隔年於威尼斯影展首映的《烈火焚身》，成為維勒納夫創作生涯的轉捩點及最重要的作品之一，被紐約時報評選為年度十大電影，更一舉榮獲第83屆奧斯卡最佳外語片提名。爾後，以其類型創作的驚人才華、風格獨特的敘事技巧與私密意境的美學語彙成功進軍好萊塢，從犯罪驚悚的《私法爭鋒》、《怒火邊界》，到科幻史詩的《異星入境》、《銀翼殺手2049》、《沙丘》等，在其擅長細膩爬梳推進的敘事肌理中，迸發出作品深刻而強大的撼動力與後座力。

《烈火焚身》的主題是被講了無數次的尋根，而電影的誕生與瓦吉穆阿瓦德精彩無比的戲劇原作有著絕對關係。維勒納夫受訪時曾說過：「我對本劇的第一印象，就和我初次看《現代啟示錄》時有著相同的感受，我整個人被震懾住。我在一個小型劇院觀賞演出，劇本本身像是重重的一拳直擊在我的臉上，當我從座位站起來時，我的雙膝顫抖著，就在那個當下，我知道我一定要將它拍成電影。」《烈火焚身》透過維勒納夫精湛的導演功力，將人性、國族、宿命論議題，透過親情和友情的羈絆牽引，而得以從撕裂疼痛的晦澀苦難中看見向陽的救贖。

原著劇本｜瓦吉‧穆阿瓦 

 1968 年生於黎巴嫩，童年因內戰流亡巴黎，少年時隨家人移居加拿大魁北克，後返法國定居。著作逾四十部、劇作二十三部，作品譯為二十餘種語言，巡演五大洲。

其代表作《血誓四部曲》，以強烈的敘事結構與詩性語言，探討戰爭創傷、家族記憶與身分認同。《海之邊》為該系列開篇之作。系列第二部《烈火焚身》(Incendies)後由 丹尼．維勒納夫(Denis Villeneuve)改編為電影，入圍奧斯卡最佳外語片，使其作品獲得更廣泛關注。

其書寫深植於家族記憶、戰爭創傷與身分認同，融合古典悲劇的力量、美國電影的情節推進、法國劇場的語言密度與魁北克的敘事美學、魔幻寫實與時空跳接的手法，將私密創傷轉化為時代史詩。

2009 年擔任亞維農藝術節首席藝術家，推出長達11小時的《血誓四部曲》（Le Sang des promesses）；2016 年起接任法國國家柯林劇院（Théâtre national de la Colline）藝術總監至 2026 年。曾獲加拿大總督最佳戲劇文學獎（2000、2016）、法國藝術與文學騎士勳章（2002）、法蘭西學院戲劇大獎（2009）、德國斯圖加特國家劇院歐洲戲劇獎（2021）等殊榮。2025 年於法蘭西公學院（Collège de France）開設八堂課「書寫的動詞」，從「在」、「看」、「顫抖」一路講到「死亡」，拆解寫作作為存有方式的意義。

ACADEMY AWARD NOMINEE for Best Foreign Language Film!

When notary Lebel sits down with Jeanne and Simon Marwan to read them their mother Nawal's will, the twins are stunned to receive a pair of envelopes -- one for the father they thought was dead and another for a brother they didn't know existed.

In this enigmatic inheritance, Jeanne sees the key to Nawal's retreat into unexplained silence during the final weeks of her life. She immediately decides to go to the Middle East to dig into a family history of which she knows next to nothing.

Simon is unmoved by their mother's posthumous mind games. However, the love he has for his sister is strong, and he soon joins her in combing their ancestral homeland in search of a Nawal who is very different from the mother they knew.

With Lebel's help, the twins piece together the story of the woman who brought them into the world, discovering a tragic fate as well as the courage of an exceptional woman.

An adaptation of Wajdi Mouawad's hit play, INCENDIES is a deeply moving story that brings the extremism and violence of today's world to a starkly personal level, delivering a powerful and poetic testament to the uncanny power of the will to survive.

Denis Villeneuve, Director

Denis Villeneuve, filmmaker (born 3 October 1967 in Gentilly, QC). Denis Villeneuve is one of Canada’s best-known and most acclaimed filmmakers. His visually inventive, atmospheric and sombre films frequently focus on themes of trauma, identity and memory. His Canadian films, including the searing psychological dramas Maelström (2000), Polytechnique (2009), Incendies (2010) and Enemy (2013), have won 22 Genie Awards, five Canadian Screen Awards and 26 Prix Iris. His Hollywood films — Prisoners (2013), Sicario (2015) and Arrival (2016) — have enjoyed critical and commercial success. He is the only Québécois filmmaker to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Director. With Blade Runner 2049 (2017) and an upcoming adaption of Frank Herbert’s Dune, Villeneuve has become one of the most sought-after filmmakers in the world. In December 2019, the Hollywood Critics Association named him the Filmmaker of the Decade.

Villeneuve gained international attention in the fall of 2010 with Incendies, a shattering adaptation of Wajdi Mouawad’s Governor General’s Award-winning play of the same name. The Canada-France coproduction, shot in Montreal and Jordan, depicts twin siblings Jeanne (Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin) and Simon (Maxime Gaudet) trying to honour the final wish of their late mother, Nawal (Lubna Azabal) by finding their father and brother in an unnamed Middle Eastern country. Incendies traces a powerful story of migration and survival as it reconstructs Nawal’s journey as a freedom fighter and war prisoner in parallel with Jeanne and Simon’s search.

Villeneuve’s dark and foreboding yet highly accessible adaptation accentuates the elements of Greek tragedy in Mouawad’s text, most notably the references to the tragedy of Oedipus. Incendies received near-unanimous acclaim upon premiering at the Venice Film Festival. It went on to win the Best Canadian Feature Film Award at TIFF, along with dozens of international awards at many festivals. Incendies won eight Genie Awards and nine Jutra Awards (now Prix Iris), including Best Motion Picture and Best Director at both galas. It was also named one of the top ten films of 2011 by the New York Times and received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

Following the international acclaim of Incendies, Villeneuve was the subject of a career retrospective at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. He was also named one of Variety’s Top Ten Directors to Watch.

Writer, Wajdi Mouawad 

Wajdi Mouawad is a playwright, director, actor, and the preeminent force in contemporary Francophone theatre. Born in Lebanon, 1968, his portfolio traces a trajectory of exile from Beirut to Paris and then Quebec. Having over forty publications translated into twenty languages, his voice has become a definitive bridge between Mediterranean history and Western avant-garde theatre.

Mouawad’s reputation is anchored in his tetralogy, Le Sang des promesses, an epic exploration of ancestral trauma and identity scarred by war. While Littoral(Tideline) serves as the cycle's haunting genesis, its successor, Scorched (Incendies), reached global acclaim through Denis Villeneuve’s Oscar-nominated cinematic adaptation.
Rooted in the triptych of ancestral memory, war, and identity, Mouawad’s writing transmutes private trauma into modern epics, often fusing the gravitas of Greek tragedy and French linguistic density with the cinematic momentum and magical realism of Québécois aesthetics.

In 2009, Mouawad served as the Associate Artist of the Festival d’Avignon, premiering his monumental eleven-hour marathon, Le Sang des promesses. Since 2016, he has presided as the Artistic Director of France’s Théâtre National de la Colline. His career is marked by the highest honors, including the Grand Prix du Théâtre de l'Académie Française and the European Drama Award. In 2025, he was appointed to the Collège de France to deliver his landmark lecture series, "The Verb of Writing"—an ontological deconstruction of the creative act as a fundamental mode of existence, and a metaphysical trajectory through the verbs to be, to see, to tremble, and ultimately, to die.
